The Stanley Cup

Today we were invited to the Newport Sports Museum to get up close to the Stanley Cup. We were able to touch the trophy, take photos, and also were told the history by the Cup Keeper, Mike Bolt and were able to ask him questions. The opportunity was given to us because the kids are members of the Anaheim Ducks Kids Club.

Christian asked Mike Bolt how many bands from the Stanley Cup are in the Hockey Hall of Fame. There are two bands in the Hockey Hall of Fame. What this means is, two of the removable bands from the trophy are permanently removed so the Cup does not get any larger than the current size. Currently it weighs about 35 pounds. Mike Bolt told us stories about the travels of the cup and also told us of one of his favorite cup photos, see it here. Below you can see our photo with the trophy.
