I am on the Board of Directors for Orange Little League and thought it would be cool to get a silent auction together to raise funds for field renovations. I sent out donation request letters to local sports teams for autographed or game used items to be used for the silent auction at Orange Little League’s Pancake Breakfast on February 21st. Last week I received a rejection notice from the San Diego Chargers stating that they receive thousands of requests from all over the country and since they can’t accommodate all of them, they focus on helping those in need in the San Diego community.

I was a bit miffed thinking they could have provided a simple 8×10 photo ($3 cost) signed by a player but I accepted their explanation that they only donate to the San Diego Community. Today I was quite peeved when I read in the OC Register that the San Diego Chargers have signed a deal with the Wasserman Media Group to market Southern California’s only NFL Team in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. They are trying to get them to help sell luxury suites and club seats to fans in LA and Orange Counties. I live in Orange County and have attended a Chargers game every year since 2000. I find it pretty sad that they want to take our money but they can’t help our community. I guess this goes to show what kind of organization the Chargers truly are.

FYI, the Kings also sent a rejection postcard too. I guess we are not in LA as Arte Moreno seems to think we are

FYI, so far the Angels have stepped up by donating a signed Juan Rivera major league baseball and the Dodgers have donated 4 vouchers good for tickets to a game next season. The silent auction is on February 21st at the Orange Little League Fields. Stop by if you’re interested in bidding. We will have other great items as well.

We just attended a concert by Gary Puckett last weekend and he makes an effort to thank the veterans for their service. He plays a great song called “Home” that he dedicates to them and acknowledges all of the vets at the concert. It was a great show and a great time. Davy Jones from the Monkees also performed. That was quite interesting as well. A very entertaining evening. Below is a pic of my Dad from Gary Puckett’s show in Las Vegas earlier this year.

The Angels coaching staff and broadcaster Jose Mota donate their time to put on a baseball clinic for Angels season ticket holders. I went with my son and took some photos of the event. He had a great time and got a ball signed by Mike Butcher (former Angels player and current pitching coach). Below are the photos:

I attended the Angels game at Dodger Stadium tonight with my son. We watched the Angels no-hit the Dodgers but lose the game. Jered Weaver and Jose Arredondo combined to no-hit the Dodgers. I took some photos of them before the game. There is also a photo of my son and I in front of the scoreboard with the zero hits. It was a bittersweet ending to see the Angels no-hit the Dodgers but actually lose.

Ironically, MLB supposedly changed the definition of a no-hitter a few years back and this game supposedly doesn’t officially qualify as a no-hitter. It doesn’t really make sense since a pitcher can pitch a complete game shutout in a 5 inning game when rained out. Either way my son and I witnessed our first ever no-hitter whether MLB wants to call it one or not. I was happy that I got to share the moment with my son. MLB cannot take away the memory of us sharing in it together.

Comic legend George Carlin passed away today from heart failure. In 1991, I celebrated my 21st birthday in Laughlin, Nevada. I went to see George Carlin perform at the Riverside Casino and had a great time. I went with my friend Jeff Ford and we ordered a bucket of beers at the performance. It was quite a thrill to order the bucket of beers and see a show since I had just turned 21 five days before the show. The performance was hilarious and I still think of many of the jokes that were said that night.
George Carlin was a great entertainer and I ended up catching additional performances of his over the years. I even went to watch a taping of his television show. He peformed recently near my house but it was my wife’s birthday and she didn’t want to attend. I wish I had a chance to catch that performance. He is a legendary entertainer and will truly be missed.

Below is the ticket from my first Carlin show, five days after I turned 21 years old.
