Up with the real Halos…

The city of Orange lost a genuinely good guy today. Steve Ambriz was a classmate of mine and we both graduated from Orange High in 1988. He was the announcer for lip sync contest in 1988 and he helped support me along with Mayor Murphy and the rest of the city coucnil while I was bidding to bat against Nolan Ryan.

I just switched jobs recently and I bumped into him while I was celebrating my new job. He bought me and my former boss Irish Car Bombs (a drink with Baileys, Jamesons, and Guiness) to celebrate. That was the last time I saw him and I was supposed to go to an event he was at last night (the night before he died) but I got off of work too late. I wanted to tell him I saw his tryout for the Fullerton Flyers. He was a huge Angels fan and I would see him at games frequently. Below is a photo of him from his Fullerton Flyers tryout.

R.I.P. Steve.

Trading Places

Former Angels pitcher Aaron Sele pitches for the Dodgers in the opening game of the Interleague series at Dodger stadium against former Dodgers pitcher Jeff Weaver who is now struggling (I mean pitching) for the Angels of Anaheim.

The Mighty Ducks host the Edmonton Oilers at the Pond in game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

Happy Birthday to Lucy and Christian!

Wishful Thinking?

Bengie Molina and Troy Glaus are back in Anaheim for the first time since they left the team. These great former Angels were not offered deals by the team. I would have to imagine that the Angels regret their decision to not offer them deals.
My friend Tom Duino pointed out that the Angels Web site incorrectly lists Bengie Molina as the catcher that made a fantastic block at the game tonight. It was his brother Jose but I am sure the Angels wouldn’t mind Bengie back behind the plate. His bat is desperately missed in the lineup. Below is the image and caption from the Angels Web site. Look at the caption right below the photo in gray text.

Wrong Molina!

Ducks Playoffs

The Ducks won in overtime tonight in Colorado on Joffrey Lupul’s 4 goal game! What a feat to give the Ducks a 3-0 series advantage.

I went to the Friday and Sunday games in Anaheim with my friend Phil. At the Sunday game we got hooked up with a suite by his uncle Wally. Check out the camera phone pic from the suite.

I’ve got my Ducks section of my game room going for the playoffs.

Depeche Mode – In Our Room

I went to see Depeche Mode in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel. They were playing the Theatre Under the Stars, basically a stage setup in the parking lot of the hotel. I requested a room with a concert view and we watched the show from the comforts of the room. When the band left the stage, Dave Gahan flashed the girls in our room. Check out the images below.
